Don’t you hate it when something you KNEW should only take a short period of time ends up taking FOREVER!

This happened to me and Eric today.  Let me set it up for you.

About a year ago, Rob and I created an efficient way for us to place banners out in front of the building. We wanted it to be stable and invisible when we weren’t using it.  It consists of 2 frames for our banners.  The frames are removable and 4 pvc pipe holes in the ground for us to quickly slide the frames into.

It has worked great…until today.

So Eric and I setup one banner with no problem.  Then came the second one. Not so much…

We couldn’t find one of the holes to slide the banner into.  I thought…”This won’t be too bad.”  I’ll get down on my hands and knees and just rake my hands through the grass until I find it.

Yeah…that wasn’t working. So after a long 5 min…Eric joined me.  It didn’t help that about a million cars were filing by us on 1709.

So what proceeded was 10 minutes of 2 dudes on the side of the road digging in the ground with our bare hand.  It probably looked like we were digging for treasure or something.  It had to look weird to all the cars driving by.

We’re pulling up grass…weeds…rocks…etc.  The whole time I am wondering how in the world could this hole disappeared.

We had a sledge hammer with us (don’t ask me why)…so I started pounding the ground to find the pvc pipe hole.

I remember at one point…with dirt covered hands and jeans…I looked up into the sky and just asked “God, please show me this hole in the ground!”

Finally we called on Superman (Rob) and he showed up with some tools (2 skrewdrivers…I know…weird) and eventually found the hole.

So what should have taken about 15 minutes took about 45.  We were really frustrated but also laughing at the silliness of the moment.

Oh and as we were sliding the banner into the holes…the dirtiest, stinkiest water gushed out of the hole like a geiser all over me!  ”Yeah…that’s about right.”
